Howard Cottage buries 2009

We recently buried a time capsule to mark the occasion of our move to Pioneer House, in Letchworth.

The time capsule was buried last Thursday (17th September) by some Howard Cottage residents, local children, Chairman Sarah Wren and Chief Executive John Welch. The contents of the time capsule included many items reflecting life in Letchworth in 2009:
  • newspapers of the day
  • magazines of the day including homes and gadget magazines showing latest fashions and technology
  • Royal Mint coins of 2009
  • Letchworth memorabilia
  • CD, DVD, books
  • staff photo reflecting how many staff worked here in 2009 and what we were wearing!
  • Rosemary Medland, a Howard Cottage resident’s account of life in 2009

The time capsule was buried as part of our AGM. John Welch, Chief Executive explained ‘I was pleased staff and residents got behind this idea and were excited about it being ‘dug up’ in 100 years’ time. It’s intriguing to think what Howard Cottage will be like in 2109 and how this time capsule with help inform on this part of their rich heritage.’
