Supported Housing

Supported housing

Howard Cottage has a number of services designed to help residents in their homes. These services come under the banner of Supported Housing and include the following:

Home Support

We operate this highly popular scheme for owner occupiers and private renters in Letchworth Garden City. Anyone 60+ and /or registered disabled can apply for the scheme which is designed to promote independence and wellbeing in your own home. A Home Support officer will come to your home upon appointment and discuss any issues with you which may be hindering you to retain living in your own home. Common issues are house in disrepair, lack of money, mobility or disability concerns. Home support officers will discuss options for you to stay in your home for longer and to retain independence. (This scheme is funded by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation.) For more information please read the leaflet under 'Resources' on the top right of this page.

Community Alarms/Aids Equipment

We provide (for the cost of the rental) 24 hour/7 days a week access to the Careline Control Centre which is a helpline directly accessible from home phone lines. Careline provides peace of mind for residents living on their own or with health issues as a quick call can ensure help is accessed as quickly as possible. Careline works through either equipment based next to resident’s telephones or via a necklace pendant. For more information please contact Alison Farnell, Tenancy Support Officer on 01462 683307.

Help with your tenancy

We realise that it’s not always easy to maintain a healthy tenancy so we provide support for residents who need help. This support can include discussing what other services are available, for example, our partnerships with the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Herts Young Homeless Group, Furniture Link, or assistance with benefit claims or other benefit entitlement. For full details contact Alison Farnell, Tenancy Support Officer on 01462 683307.
