Asbestos in your home

As you may be aware, many homes built between the 1930’s and the late 1990’s used asbestos in their construction

Asbestos was used in materials such as floor tiles, textured coatings such as Artex, bath panels, corrugated cement roofing on garages/sheds and insulation boards to back of doors.

Left alone and in good condition asbestos presents no risk.

Here is a factsheet about asbestos that answers some frequently asked questions:

Howard Cottage asbestos surveying project 2019/20

We have completed asbestos surveys of our communal areas and possess data on a large proportion of our properties.

Over the next 9 months we will be carrying out a further survey of all relevant properties built before 1999 to assess if asbestos is present and to establish its current condition.  The survey will provide us with an up-to-date, comprehensive level of information.

We will be writing to the residents selected to arrange a visit.

The survey will be carried out by our contractors Ensafe whose qualified surveyors have many years experience in the field.  The survey will take around an hour to complete.

Please be reassured that, to date, anything brought to light by the survey has been very low risk and no action has been required to remove or seal any asbestos materials found.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact our Statutory Compliance Contracts Manager, David Bonner, who will be more than happy to talk to you.  email:  davidbonner@howard-cottage.co.uk  /  01462 683307
