Confidentiality and data protection

At times, we will need to ask you for some information, such as when we:

  • Order your repairs
  • Discuss your tenancy
  • Collect your rent
  • Give you support.

All the information we keep about you is treated confidentially. You have a right to see information held about you, provided that you give us 40 days’ notice, and there may be an administration charge. We have clear policies and procedures on recordkeeping and which members of staff have access to different types of information. Our policies state who we can provide information to in accordance with the Data Protection Act. Occasionally, we will have to pass on information about you, eg by a court order, an official organisation, utility companies (such as the gas, water and electricity companies) and councils. We have a duty to pass on relevant information to housing benefit offices when we are receiving benefit payments for you.

Howard Cottage Housing Association imposes restrictions on the use of any personal information you provide with the aim of protecting personal data and your privacy. The personal information you provide will be used for the purposes you specify only and will not be passed to third parties. The law allows you to ask to see and correct data held about you. Questions about data protection should be sent in writing to the address on our Contact Us page.
