Sheltered, supported and extra care housing

We are particularly proud of our sheltered, supported and extra care housing for people who are 55 years or older, or who live with a disability, including those with learning disabilities, or people who may feel socially isolated.

All our sheltered housing and extra care housing schemes have a Scheme Manager whose primary role is to ensure that all the residents receive the help and support they may need to live happy and independent lives.

Churchfield House - Welwyn Garden City

Churchfield House

Situated within the conservation area of Welwyn Garden City and close to the town centre, the scheme is just off Parkway one of the broad central avenues that is a prominent feature of the city. The Scheme has 12 one-bed flats, 8 two-bed flats and 3 studio flats.

Edwin Nott House - Letchworth Garden City

Edwin Nott House Located on Birds Hill in Letchworth Garden City, Edwin Nott House is one of our smaller schemes, with 26 one-bed flats and a guest room for visiting family members.

The scheme is on a main bus route and is a short walk into the middle of the town.  It also has a well used communal lounge and kitchen facilities where regular activities take place. 

It was built in the 1980's and was named after Mr Edwin Nott, who served on the Howard Cottage Housing Associaton Board from 1950-1980 and was Chairman from 1962-80.

Greenfields - Cuffley

Greenfields Situated in the village of Cuffley, Greenfields is close to the village centre and adjacent to the greenbelt which surrounds the village. Pleasant views of the open countryside are never far away. The scheme has 14 one-bed bungalows, 22 two-bed flats, 2 shared ownership two-bed bunalows, as well as 3 studio flats. Because of its rural location and the original justification for its development, we are only able to consider applicants who live within Cuffley or Northaw.

Hollier Court - Hatfield

Hollier Court Situated in Hatfield, the scheme is very near the town centre, just off French Horn Lane. The scheme has 57 one and two-bed flats of differing designs.

John Coxall Court - Letchworth Garden City

John Coxall Court John Coxall Court is our aspirational new housing development in Letchworth Garden City, providing 71 high quality two-bedroom apartments equipped with smart home technology.     John Coxall Court provides not just high-quality, comfortable living accommodation, but also opportunities to socialise and enjoy life.

The apartments are available for those aged 55 and over.  

Kingfisher Court - Letchworth Garden City

Kingfisher Court Located on the Grange estate and built in the 1980's, this pleasant scheme is a ten minute walk to the popular Standalone Farm and on a bus route into town or the local shops.

The scheme comprises 36 one-bed flats as well as a guest room for visiting family members, and communal lounge and kitchen facilities where regular activities take place.

Macfadyen Webb House - Letchworth Garden City

Macfadyen Webb House Located on Norton Way North and named after Dr Macfadyen and Nurse Webb who raised the funds to build this scheme in the 1960's, it overlooks Norton Common an area of outstanding natural beauty.  

It is also an easy stroll away from the local outdoor swimming pool, which is open between May and September, and is very accessible for visitors being on a main bus route.

It has 37 one-bed flats and a guest room for visiting family members, along with a communal lounge and kitchen facilities where regular activities take place.

Oakview - Stevenage (supported housing)

Oakview provides specialist support for young adults with learning disabilities. The development consists of 10 one-bed flats. Due to the nature of this development the criteria for admission is subject to a joint decision between the FGCH, Herts County Council and the Care Provider.

Paddocks House – Welwyn Garden City (supported housing)

Paddocks House, based in Panshanger and built in the 1970s as a sheltered housing scheme, is owned by Welwyn Hatfield Council but leased to FGCH.  It provides self-contained one-bed units, over four storeys, for 28 residents with a learning disability.  There is on site 24/7 care and support funded and provided by Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) 

Pearsall Close – Letchworth (supported housing)

This scheme has 7 supported bed spaces for people with a learning disability who are supported by live-in carers employed by Mencap.  Two of the residents are employed part-time by FGCH as part of a community initiative to give our residents employment opportunities.

Swan Field Court – Welwyn village (extra care housing)

Swan Field Court Situated within the historic village of Welwyn, Swan Field Court provides specialist support for older people with dementia. The development consists of 8 one-bed flats and 2 two-bed flats.

Due to the very specialist nature of this development the criteria for admission is subject to a joint decision making protocol between the Housing Association and Herts County Council's Specialist Mental Health Team for Older People (SMHTOP).

Tabor Court – Letchworth Garden City (extra care housing)

Tabor Court Located on Beech Hill and opened by the Queen in 1993, this scheme is named after Miles Tabor who served on the Board of Howard Cottage HA for many years starting in 1955, and was Chairman between 1981 and 1983.

This extra care scheme has 37 one-bed flats and is a five minute stroll to Standalone Farm and Norton Common.  The scheme comprises a guest room for visiting family members. and a communal lounge and kitchen facilities where regular meals and activities take place.

There is an on-site care team commissioned by Herts County Council, which is designed to allow residents who need extra care and support to live independently and securely in their own home.

Woodside House - Welwyn Garden City (extra care housing)

Woodside House Situated within the conservation area of Welwyn Garden City and very close to the town centre, the scheme is just off Bridge Road.

The development consists of 108 one, two-bed and studio flats. This scheme also offers 'extra care' support, in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council.

In addition to the Scheme Manager and Assistant Scheme Manager, carers are on site on a 24/7 basis to provide support and care to our frailer residents.
